Australian Rowing Championships

The 2012 Australian Rowing Championships (ARC) and Interstate Regatta has been held this week at Champion Lakes rowing facility in Armadale. The ARC event is held in a different state across Australia on a rotational basis. Being held in Perth this year the John XXIII Rowing Club took the opportunity to enter a number of crews. Crews have been entered in under 17, under 19, school boy/girl category and adaptive categories and this week has seen stiff competition from across Australia.

The event is run to a higher standard than regular rowing events school aged rowers compete in, a point of interest and some amusement has been the requirement to "weigh-in" coxes. As our 2 coxes from the club's junior ranks Alex King and Tom Viljoen weigh in under 50kg, the required minimum weight, coaches have had to get creative finding additional weight to carry during races.
