2012 Inter House Swimming Carnival (Sr Mary Murray Championship Cup)

Once again, Challenge Stadium was the scene of the Inter House Swimming Carnival held on Monday, February 13th. The House spirit and enthusiasm from all participants went a long way to making the carnival a success. Koolyangarra have maintained their stronghold on the Sr Mary Murray Championship Cup winning for the third consecutive year ahead of runners up Loreto who continue to show an impressive improvement. Congratulations also go to Loyola House who was awarded the "Spirit Award" for best overall participation by a House on the day. The novelty events provide an increased level of engagement and enjoyment for our students whilst not performing in the main swimming events. Record breaking feats from Year 8 student Beatrice Tay (50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly), Year 7 students Sian Munks (100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly) and Jessica Cannon (50m Backstroke) were also major highlights during this fantastic carnival. Some excellent performances in the relay events saw further records tumble:

  • Year 8 Girls 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay - Loyola in 2:17.18sec breaking the old mark set in 2003 by over 4 seconds.

Boys and Girls Champion details will be announced at the next secondary assembly once the results have been finalised.

Congratulations to all competitors throughout the day, especially the outstanding efforts of our special needs students from the Mary Ward Centre who participated with such wonderful spirit and determination. We wish our top performers all the very best on their efforts for the ACC Swim Meet to be held later in the term. A huge thank you to all of the staff and students from John XXIII College for their efforts; to the Health and Physical Education staff for their professional running of the day; and, to the staff of Challenge Stadium for their assistance and use of such an excellent facility.
