John XXIII College Rowing Club
John XXIII College Rowing Club competes in a variety of regattas across PSA, IGSSA and Rowing WA All Schools competitions.
Established in 1993, the John XXIII College Rowing Club has developed many students into strong minded, resilient and committed individuals, with many going on to compete in State, National and International competitions. With an inclusive philosophy, the rowers of all levels are catered for, with comprehensive training and instruction provided by qualified coaches.

Training
Year 7
All Year 7 students have the opportunity take part in a six week 'Learn to Row' program during Term 4 every year. Designed to introduce the students to the sport, during either a Monday or Wednesday afternoons, teaching the basic skills in quads, doubles and singles.
Year 8
After a successful 'Learn to Row' in Year 7, students can join the John XXIII College Rowing Club officially in Week 9 of Term 1 the following year. Both boys and girls training together on Monday and Wednesday afternoons during Terms 1 and 2, students start to develop their ability to row together in crews, with opportunity to race at the end of Term 2.
Years 9-12 Boys
Boys will begin rowing in Term 4 prior to the year they move into Years 9-12 (i.e. Year 8s Term 4, Year 9s Term 1). With the PSA competition during Term 1 and Rowing WA All Schools Regattas during Terms 2 and 3 (classified as winter season for boys).
Years 9-12 Girls
Girls will begin in rowing in Term 1, with the IGSSA competition occurring during Term 2 and Rowing WA All Schools Regattas during Terms 2 and 3.
Message to Parents
As a parent of a rower, you will see your child grow into a strong, fit and confident young person and you will have the opportunity to meet and mix with a great group of parents. You will be encouraged to become involved with the running of the club and all parents participate in the club's activities in some way.
Club Membership
The John XXIII Rowing Club consists of rowers and parents and is run by a Rowing Coordinator/Teacher employed by the College. Any financial rower is a member as are his/her family. The Committee, consisting of approximately 8 parent members and each year, usually in May, office bearers (President Secretary, Treasurer, etc) and other committee members are elected by club members at the Annual General Meeting. The office bearers have specific duties under the Club's constitution. The president is responsible for ensuring good communication between the Committee and the College. The secretary organises the Committees' roles and the treasurer is responsible for organising the budget. In addition, a coordinator for each year group, to assist in coordinating specific year group events. Day to day operations, organisation of the rowing shed, boat maintenance, scheduling of training sessions, crew selection, recruitment of new members and employment of coaches are roles of the Rowing Coordinator.
The Committee meets several times a year and reviews the activities of the office bearers and considers Club policies and activities. Parents are welcome to enquire about the running of the club, or to become involved.
